About Us
The Lincoln-Lancaster County Food Policy Council is a diverse group of farmers, gardeners, businesses, organizations, and individuals with one thing in common: we care about improving the local food system.
Mission Statement
We develop integrated policies that promote a healthy and sustainable local food system.

Areas of Focus
The following are the nine areas of focus that the Lincoln-Lancaster County Food Policy Council (Lincoln-Lancaster FPC) should strive to include across membership categories:

1. Production
Includes food growing businesses (farmers, ranchers, dairy) and farm workers
​
2. Value Added Food Prep/Processing
Includes the process of taking a raw commodity and changing its form to produce a high quality end product
​
3. Food Distribution
Includes retail and wholesale distribution businesses
​
4. Markets
Includes grocers, restauranteurs and direct marketing (e.g. CSAs and farmers markets)
​
5. Environmental Resource Management
Includes waste and recycling, green promotion businesses, composting, waste collection and transportation and water use
​
6. Local Government Representatives and Liaisons
Includes elected officials and administrative departments, such as public health, social services, planning and education, and UNL Cooperative Extension, with some in this area working in a strictly advisory capacity
​
7. Non-Governmental Organizations and Liaisons
Includes non-profit organizations and foundations, including hospitals, health care providers and faith-based organizations
​
8. Food Security Advocates
Includes those who work to assure healthy food is accessible to all, food-based education, and those that work to change laws and systems around healthy food security

9. Community
Includes community members and residents with an interest in supporting the mission of the Food Policy Council
​

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP
General members vote to elect the Voting Members of the council and on any charter changes. Attendance at the six general meetings per year and participation in committees is suggested.
VOTING MEMBERSHIP
Voting members conduct the major business of the organization, creating and managing committees and voting on policy issues. Voting Members are required to attend all general meetings and to participate in at least one committee.
LIAISON MEMBERSHIP
Expert liaisons are non-voting members of the council that may come from government or non-governmental organizations. Liaisons are asked to advise the voting and general membership in their work based on their professional expertise. Liaisons are invited to attend the six general meetings per year and to participate in committees at their discretion.
COORDINATOR
Coordinators are non-voting members of the council that provide administrative support to the membership.
